LEGO® Sculpture at Cape Fear Botanical Garden

Inspired by nature and built from nearly half-a-million LEGO pieces, Nature Connects LEGO® Brick Sculptures will be installed at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden from September 2016 through January 2017.

Larger-than-life sculptures such as a tiger swallowtail butterfly, an eight-foot hummingbird, and a seven-foot rose will be exhibited in related areas of the garden.

"Pairing this exceptional display of LEGO brick sculptures with the beauty of the Cape Fear Botanical Garden creates a one-of-a-kind experience for groups," said John Meroski, Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (FACVB) president and CEO. "Whether an overnight stop on the way to Florida's attractions or part of a full greater Fayetteville itinerary, plan for a visit in fall 2016."

For nearly a decade, artist Sean Kenney has been turning ordinary LEGO bricks into works of art. Kenney was the first of now only thirteen LEGO Certified Professionals worldwide. His work has been featured in major media from The New York Times to BBC News. A self-described "professional kid," Kenney uses his LEGO bricks to create things that connect to the larger world.

In addition to the sculptures, Nature Connects will include educational activities for all ages, hands-on LEGO brick building stations, and design competitions. The exhibit will be open during regular garden hours and included in the price of admission.
