World's Longest Timber-Towered Suspension Bridge Comes to Northern Michigan

Groups could soon see the natural splendor and rolling hills of Northern Michigan from a new view, thanks to SkyBridge Michigan in Boyne Falls. The new attraction, set to be completed and open in fall 2022, will be the world's longest timber-towered suspension bridge.

Located at Boyne Mountain Resort, SkyBridge Michigan is situated between the peaks of McLouth and Disciples Ridge and will be accessible year-round for visitors looking to admire panoramic views of the region's seasonal beauty.

The bridge, designed by Experiential Resources (ERi), clocks in at 1,200 feet in length, with the height of the bridge's suspended walking surface sitting nearly 118 feet above the valley floor. Anchoring the bridge on each side are two wooden timber towers (approximately 52-feet high and nearly 70-feet long), which serve as a nod to Northern Michigan's logging history. The wood itself has been locally sourced by Matelski Lumber.

Erin Ernst, Director of Communications for Boyne Resorts' Michigan Operations, says they anticipate SkyBridge Michigan being a major attraction for the resort, as well as the region as a whole by adding great four-season appeal.

"The bridge adds yet another reason to experience the area during the popular summer months; will be a major attraction in its own right for the scenic fall color season; and expands upon the lures of winter and spring in northern Michigan," Ernst said. "SkyBridge Michigan is a must-do in trip planning to Northern Michigan, whether for families, couples or friends."

Ernst says the resort plans to hold a grand opening event for SkyBridge Michigan, in addition to event activations and light displays for the bridge throughout the year.

"Boyne Mountain offers the right topography and beautiful, panoramic views of Boyne Valley," Ernst explained when asked about why the location is ideal for the bridge. "Chairlift access is already in place being a ski destination, and the resort is located off from highway 131, making it easily accessible. SkyBridge Michigan brings an offering that's very unique for our area, and an activity that's no skill, and all thrill."
